Sustainability at Buchner Manufacturing

From recycled aluminum scrap to smarter packaging and long-term supplier partnerships,
sustainability is part of how we design, manufacture, and ship every Buchner product.

Built for the Long Run — Responsibly

At Buchner Manufacturing, sustainability isn’t a slogan, it’s a steady commitment. As a Canadian-owned and operated family business, we take pride in building quality products that last, while being mindful of how we operate and what we leave behind. From recycling scrap metal to reducing energy use, we’re making practical, meaningful changes that support our planet and our people.

Waste Reduction & Recycling

Every day, our operations generate aluminum, steel, copper, cardboard, and packaging waste—and nearly all of it is recycled. We’ve partnered with trusted waste and recycling providers to ensure metals and materials are handled responsibly, with only general garbage sent to landfill.

When products don’t meet our standards, we either sell them at a discount as off-spec or recycle them. Our goal is simple: reduce waste at the source, and keep as much material out of landfills as possible.

Circular Materials

We believe in keeping materials in use for as long as possible. That’s why we work with recycling partners who specialize in reprocessing scrap metal- and why we proudly source aluminum from mills like Jupiter Aluminum, which runs on nearly 100% recycled content. The result? A lower environmental footprint, without compromising quality.

Energy & Emissions

Our production plant runs on electricity and compressed air, with minimal emissions beyond heating and cooling. Over the past few years, we’ve upgraded much of our lighting to high-efficiency LEDs, both in our plant and across several of our branch locations- a simple change with a meaningful impact.

As new environmental regulations come into effect—particularly for transportation- we’re preparing to modernize our fleet and ensure all new equipment meets or exceeds the latest emission standards.

Water Usage

Water plays a limited role in our operations, used only for facility needs like handwashing and kitchens. We produce no industrial wastewater or water-intensive byproducts, keeping our footprint small in this area.

Smarter, Leaner Operations

Sustainability goes hand-in-hand with efficiency. We embrace continuous improvement principles like LEAN and Kaizen to reduce waste, improve processes, and prevent defects before they happen. Whether it’s adjusting machines to reduce scrap or fine-tuning how we plan production, we’re constantly looking for better ways to work.

Continue reducing material waste through smarter production planning

We know sustainability is a journey- not a destination. And while there’s still more work to do, we’re committed to moving forward with purpose, integrity, and a deep respect for the world we’re building in. Because for us, sustainability isn’t about trends — it’s about leaving things better for the next generation.
